Hemp, Hemp, Hooray!

Did you know that 100 million people in the U.S. live with chronic pain, 60 million are affected by a sleep disorder, and 39% of Americans are more anxious in 2018 than in 2017? Additionally, in the recent decade, life expectancy in the U.S. has tumbled due to addiction problems associated with prescription medication and opioid overdose. Not all is gloomy and glum, though. Read on to find out how to significantly lower the risks of these ailments.

Recently, conscious consumers have been moving away from prescription pills to plant-based medicinal therapy. This momentum is currently driven by the healing power and effectiveness of cannabidiol (CBD), found abundantly in industrial hemp. As a medical physician, principal research investigator, and an advocate for holistic and preventative medicine, no one is more thrilled about this than yours truly.

Though hemp has been used for millennia in textiles, medicine, and food, globally; hemp farming in the U.S. was banned in the 1970s with the passage of the “Controlled Substances Act” in which hemp was included as a “Schedule 1 drug” along with marijuana because both had contained tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that induces the marijuana “high”. “The Hemp Farming Act” of 2018 removed the hemp plant, its seeds, and derivatives from the “Controlled Substances Act”, making hemp a legal agricultural crop again.

Unlike marijuana, hemp is abundant in CBD and contains less than 0.3% THC and does not make you high when consumed as a dietary supplement. Over a hundred unique naturally occurring compounds called phytocannabinoids, including CBD, have been identified in hemp, and consumers are reporting numerous health benefits from taking CBD in the form of Full Spectrum Hemp Extract Oil (CBD, other phytocannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids), or CBD Oil (CBD in its purest form).

As early as the 1980s, researcher Dr. Raphael Mechoulam had demonstrated the effectiveness of CBD therapy in seizure patients. In 2015, I came across Full Spectrum Hemp Extract oil while searching for a remedy for Zoster neuralgia, but found minimal published research on CBD. Fast forward to 2019, scientific research has demonstrated preliminary efficacy for a range of physical and mental health care problems and has attracted significant research interest due to CBD antiinflammatory, anti-oxidative and anti-necrotic protective effects in humans and animals, as well as displaying a favorable safety and tolerability profile. In fact, in June of 2018, Epidiolex (CBD at high dosage) was approved by the FDA for treatment of rare seizure disorders. As a nutritional supplement, CBD is reported by consumers to predominantly relieve pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and migraine headaches. Many people use Full Spectrum Hemp Extract oil on their skin to soothe pain and skin disorders (rosacea, dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, mosquito bites, sunburns).

If you decide to try Full Spectrum Hemp Extract or CBD oil, invest in a high-quality product with legitimate third-party verification for potency and purity like Hemp&Heroes. Your body deserves a chance to naturally heal with CBD, but it should never be put in harm’s way.

Lastly, scientific research is still lagging behind consumers’ testimonials and we still do not clearly understand CBD’s pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, so consult with your healthcare provider if you are on prescription medications before taking CBD.
