THE MODERNA LOOK
La Moderna’s Neapolitan owner, Luca D’Angelo, is not new to the Italian restaurant scene, and it shows in both the décor and dishes at his sleek eatery. The copper bar is the first notable feature upon entry, and it’s unique in more than just its looks. The restaurant’s cocktails have witty names that include cities from Italy, with titles like “Capri-Rinha” and “Golden Milano” dominating the list, and the contents inside are mixed just as intelligently. The rest of the space can be described as a modern feel, with smooth wooden tables, and low-hanging yellow lamps.
SEACRET TREAT
It was a bit hard to choose which entrée to go with at La Moderna. It felt like an intimidating task to choose just one dish out of so many appealing options, but I eventually eeny-meeny-miny-mo’d my way to The Lobster Gnocchi. It arrived at my table as not only a pleasure to my eyes and nose, but I soon found out, to my taste buds as well! Freshly cooked Maine Lobster seemed to melt in my mouth, and the cherry tomatoes, thyme, and shallots added the perfect complement to the seafood. The gnocchi can best be described as a pillow-soft dumpling. It was my first time trying the Italian treat, and I was glad that I took the chance; it was definitely nice to try something other than pasta at an Italian eatery.

The gnocchi and the delightful bread that had held me over for the main course had pretty much filled up my stomach, but how could I say no to dessert? Especially when an adorable Italian style cheesecake decorated to look like a mini pizza slice made its way to my table. The layer right above the crust was a generous spread of Nutella, and then the slice of cheesecake, followed by a strawberry sauce coat and fresh blueberries on top. Sprinkled all over the plate was powdered sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; the necessary sweet embellishments that concluded my final statement: This was the best Italian style cheesecake I had ever had! La Moderna certainly lives up to the hype with its Italian authenticity, relaxing environment, and impressive fare and cocktails. Don’t hesitate to book a reservation!
