Tyler Herro was born on January 20th, 2000 to Jennifer and Christopher Herro in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His younger brothers Austin and Myles also play basketball. Herro went to Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin. In his senior year of high school, Herro was named to the First Team All-State, averaging 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. He was as dominant as a high school basketball player there was in the country.
After an outstanding high school career in which he scored over 2,000 points, it was time for Herro to decide where he would attend college. After initially deciding on a local option at the University of Wisconsin, he eventually ended up attending the University of Kentucky. In his one season with the Wildcats, Herro averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists and was the only player that year to play all 37 games.
Herro decided to declare for the 2019 NBA draft. His desire to break into the NBA was more important than the rest of his college career at the moment. Herro was selected 13th overall by the Miami Heat. In 47 NBA games, Herro averaged 12.9 points, 4 rebounds, 1.9 assists in 27.2 minutes per game. He played a pivotal role for a surprising Miami Heat team in a season that was so rudely interrupted by Covid-19. He will look to play an even larger role when the NBA season is scheduled to resume on July 31st. With Herro and the rest of a really good core team, the Heat are positioned well to land a big star and be relevant for years to come.
