Thomas Stanley Holland is a British actor, best known for playing the famous superhero, Spider-Man. Holland was born in Kingston-upon-Thames, England on June 1, 1996. His parents are Dominic Anthony Holland, a comedian and author, and Nicola Elizabeth (Frost), a photographer. He has three younger siblings, Paddy and the twins Sam and Harry. Along with his siblings, he sponsors a non-profit organization called ‘The Brothers Trust’, which raises money for charitable causes. Holland is very close to his siblings and parents.
Before Holland got famous, he, like any youngster, attended high school. Not just any high school, he went to “Donhead Preparatory School,” an independent day school in Wimbledon, which is in the southwest of London. After successfully completing his school education, he then became a student at Wimbledon College and graduated in the year 2012. On September 2012, Tom started a two-year course at the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology. After completing his GCSE’s, which are notable for their numerous famous alumni, he learned the nuances of acting and dancing. Holland began his dancing journey with a hip-hop dance class when he joined the Nifty Feet Dance School in Wimbledon, London.
He began his acting career at the age of 12, when he made his ‘West End’ theatre debut on March 8, 2010. He played an important role in the popular play Billy Elliot: the Musical, which eventually earned him the opportunity to meet the then-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Gordon Brown. In 2006, during the Richmond Dance Festival, Tom was seen dancing at Nifty Feet Dance School, where he was spotted by choreographer Lynne Page (who was an associate of Peter Darling and the choreographer of Billy Elliot and Billy Elliot: the Musical). He was working at the time as an assistant to a popular choreographer, Peter Darling. When Lynne Page saw Tom dancing, he knew that Tom would later become a popular entertainer, so he took Tom under his wing.
Tom was then to audition on eight occasions and was trained for two years, which later landed him the role to play as Billy’s best friend, Michael, in “Billy Elliot: the Musical.” Since this was his “West End” debut, he gained popularity in the artist theater world. His reviews went through the roof after his first theater performance on June 28, 2008, when he played the role of Billy. The reviews praised him for his versatile acting and dancing skills. On September 8, 2008, Tom went to play the titular role in the same musical. In that same year, Tom later co-starred with Tanner Pfluger, appeared on an interview with the news program “Channel 5” for one of it’s at the show premiers, that was performed by the popular “Angry Dance” from the musical and was later premiered by Myleene Klass, who then hosted the premier. Then, in 2009, Tom was featured on the ITV1 show The Feel Good Factor, and after that, he started to appear on several television shows and interviews later. Tom said,
“I THINK THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO JUST TAKE IN ONE STEP AT A TIME. I THINK IF YOU RUSH INTO FAME, THEN THAT’S WHEN IT CAN BE REALLY AFFECTING, AND IF YOU TAKE IT FOR GRANTED, IT CAN BE REALLY AFFECTING.”
Two months after leaving “Billy Elliot the Musical,” Holland successfully auditioned for a starring role in The Impossible (directed by Juan Antonio Bayona) alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. Tom then became best known for playing the title role in “Billy Elliot the Musical” at the Victoria Palace Theatre, London, as well as when he stared in The Impossible (2012). The Impossible was based on a true story that took place during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. The star role in the film The Impossible was like a lottery ticket. Tom then became the winner of the Hollywood Spotlight Award, as well as of the National Board of Review’s Award in the “Breakthrough Actor” category. For his excellent performance as 12-year-old Lucas Bennett in the film The Impossible, he has won a total of nine prestigious awards. Some of the awards that he won for the film The Impossible include, “Spotlight Award,” “Best Youth Performance,” “Breakthrough Performance-Male,” “Young British Performer of the Year,” “Best Male Newcomer,” and “Best Performance in a Feature Film.”
As a great artist, he continues to act in several other movies and shows, like the 2012 film How I lived Now, in which he appeared to star in the role of Isaac, (directed by Kevin MacDonald) alongside Saoirse Ronan, and in a short film titled Moments. In that same year, Holland was then featured in Screen International’s “UK Stars of Tomorrow-2012” and in Variety’s “Youth Impact Report 2012”. Then in 2015, he played the younger version of Thomas Nickerson in the adventure film, In the Heart of the Sea. In 2015, Tom was cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Sony and Marvel films. He has previously appeared in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Tom said, “Civil War will be a brilliant movie, a huge movie and I’ll have the support of the success of that movie so that I can go on to my own”. 2016 turned out to be his best year because of the interesting characters he played in four different popular flicks, like Captain America: Civil War, The Lost City of Z, A Monster Calls, and Edge of Winter.
Then in 2017, he continued his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming, working alongside the main characters like Zandaya (they’re very good friends), Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., Laura Harrier, Jon Favreau, and Michael Keaton. He also appeared in several movies that year too, called Pilgrimage and The Current War. He played Brother Diarmuid in Pilgrimage, and he was portrayed as a famous American businessman, Samuel Insull, in The Current War. He then went on to do the same in a couple of other video games, titled Spider-Man: Homecoming and Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. Tom Holland also received many awards in 2017, along with receiving the prestigious ‘British Academy Film Award’ (BAFTA). On top of all the awards, he also made an appearance in the popular TV series, ‘Lip Sync Battle’.
Tom has also appeared in a short story film he directed called Tweet. Tom’s dream is to eventually become a director himself. “At the moment, I’m sort of developing some of my own little short film ideas, and trying to get into the directing side of things, just as an interest really, to see what it’s like.” Tom has a host of upcoming films under his belt. Though he is growing from strength to strength as an actor, Tom says his ultimate goal is to become a director in Hollywood. But for now he’s committing to different unique acting roles and challenges, which he has been doing for a while now. In 2018, Tom continued his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Studios’ superhero film, Avengers: Infinity War.
“I’VE ALWAYS BEEN A HUGE FAN OF SPIDER-MAN AND GROWING UP, I HAD COUNTLESS SPIDERMAN COSTUMES. TWO YEARS AGO, I WENT TO A FANCY DRESS PARTY DRESSED AS SPIDER-MAN. I HAD THIS AWESOME MORPH SUIT WHERE YOU COULD PUT YOUR PHONE ON YOUR CHEST AND SPIDERS WOULD CRAWL ACROSS THE COSTUME. IT WAS AWESOME! HE’S ALWAYS BEEN A BIG PART OF MY LIFE AND A BIG PART OF A LOT OF BOYS’ LIVES, BECAUSE EVERYONE CAN KIND OF RELATE TO HIM.”
Although there is a bit of irony about Tom, he says that he has a very strong fear of spiders in real life. Tom, a non-U.S. born actor, is the first to play the incarnation of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, a teenager at the time of casting, and turning 19 shortly before there was a formal announcement in June 2015. His predecessor, Andrew Garfield, was also raised in the U.K., but was born in the United States; he was a huge fan of Spider-Man before he played the role and said that playing the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a dream come true for him. Shortly after the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, Tom broke Tobey Maguire’s record of portraying as Spider-Man in a live action film, especially when showing up in character in a Marvel Studios and Sony fourth film.
On this note, Tom Hollands’ personal life doesn’t just conclude with acting and dancing, but in his free time he practices gymnastics and spends most of his time watching his favorite football club, “Arsenal F.C.”. Tom, as well, currently resides in London with his family, along with his dog, Tessa, a Blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Tom’s private life is quite private, unless he posts something on social media, like Instagram. Even though rumors began to embark on their romantic life, when Zandaya and Tom were spotted and photographed by paparazzi on July 1st, 2021, and they were kissing, that’s when the relationship started to embark off-screen. It wasn’t until Zendaya’s birthday two months later that he confirmed their relationship, posting the cutest message on Instagram to celebrate her turning 26, saying, “My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays.” Gimme a call when you’re up xxx.”
Before dating Zandaya, it was said that Tom was dating Nadia Parkes at the start of 2020. The couple were introduced through showbiz friends and moved in together just before the lock down. But, when the couple split up, it wasn’t clear on how, why, or when they broke up, but Tom hasn’t removed the pictures of Nadia from his Instagram since last summer. Back in 2015, Toms’ first girlfriend was reportedly dating his childhood sweetheart, Ella Lotherington. Tom would frequently post about them on Instagram, but his posts have been deleted since. In 2017, Tom and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children actress Ella sparked dating rumors when they were seen looking close at a BAFTAs after-party. However, the speculation was then crushed when she was linked up with Brad Pitt. But now he seems happy to be dating his Best Friend Zandaya, they both do.
Although many other productions with Tom Holland are to come out this year. On December 17th, catch Holland in the action/adventure/Sci-Fi film, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Spider-Man, the friendly neighborhood hero, is unmasked and can no longer
separate his normal life from his super hero life. That’s when he asks for help from Doctor Strange. The stakes become even more dangerous, and it forces Peter Parker to consider what it truly means to be Spider-Man. It’s definitely a worldly adventure, like many other of Holland’s recent works! Rumor has it that one adventurous action movie will be out next year. Uncharted (2022) is a prequel to the games, starring Holland as a younger Drake, showing us details of how he came to meet and befriend Sully.
