Fashion thinkers March 2014

By Molly Carey

Last month’s column was all about spring trends for 2014, and this month, the focus is on key pieces that will help you build the perfect warm weather wardrobe. Since these are key pieces that can be mixed and matched with various outfits, we recommend spending a little extra on quality.

• Pleated/fluted skirt: Flirty and feminine, the fluted skirt works as a transition piece from office to cocktail party. Our color pick for spring: any shade of white. For the daytime look, tuck in a pastel button-down blouse and pair with a wedge. Heading out for cocktails? Change out the button-down for a crop top and switch to stilettos.

• White denim: It goes with everything. DL1961 has an amazing fit that never stretches out. Can you say perfection?

• Button-down blouses: A girl can never have enough! Two key styles that are a must: the chambray/denim button down and the basic white oxford. Wear it over a maxi dress, by itself with denim, or underneath a light sweater for the cooler nights. A great option is Current/Elliott’s perfect fit shirt in Everett.

• Colorful blazer: I must own about 10 of these. A great layering piece for spring, it’s an easy way to add a pop of color. My picks for spring: look for shades of pink, yellow and blue.

• Neutral wedges: A classic that never fails you … opt for a pair with fun hardware like Dolce Vita’s Tabby.

• Sundress: An easy go-to for spring … I’m loving anything in shades of yellow for spring, so my pick is DV’s Cadis baby doll dress.
